Crime Stoppers of Houston will break ground on its new 30,000-square-foot headquarters in Midtown on Oct. 30.
The nonprofit will tear down its current 22,400-square-foot building at 3001 Main St. to make way for the new structure, which was designed by Houston-based Merriman Holt Powell Architects and is being built by Houston-based Mission Constructors Inc. The new building will occupy the entire 3000 block of Main Street and will include a 12,800-square-foot Harris County Sheriff’s Officers Memorial Garden.
Crime Stoppers was started in Houston in 1981 and has since solved more than 30,000 cases that have led to almost 25,000 arrests.
"The Crime Stoppers program in Houston has become the most successful of any Crime Stoppers program in the world," said Dave Ward, news anchor at Channel 13's KTRK who will be honored as the voice of Crime Stoppers at its gala on Oct. 29. "It’s an amazing concept. Crime Stoppers has put thousands of felons in prison."
